Refund policy
Last updated: October 1, 2026
How refunds work for Drop Down Pro and Supporter, the two purchases Drop Down offers, and the rights that apply whatever this page says. Drop Down Basic is free, so there is nothing to refund there.
The short version
Drop Down Basic is free, with no time limit and no account. It is how you try Drop Down on your own Mac before you pay, and this site describes each option Pro adds. If you buy Pro and it does not work out the way this site describes, you can ask for a full refund within 14 days of the purchase. A person reads each request and checks it against this page; it is not automatic.
- The refund covers Pro that does not work on your Mac, does not do what this site describes, or a Mac that cannot run Drop Down. See what the refund covers.
- A change of mind about Pro that works as described is what Basic is for, and is not covered. See what it does not cover.
- Duplicate and accidental purchases are always refunded.
- A license key that never reached you is a delivery failure, and we put it right.
- If the law where you live gives you a refund or withdrawal right that cannot be signed away, you keep it in full, and it comes first.
- Requests go through the refund request form.
Try Basic first
The download on this site is the whole app, and without a key it is Drop Down Basic, free for as long as you use it: hiding, the panel with its automatic grid, real menu bar icons, the ⌃⌥⌘D and ⌃⌥⌘H shortcuts and every safety feature. Run it on the Mac you plan to buy for. That is the time to find out whether Drop Down suits your menu bar, your apps and your taste.
Pro is a one-time purchase, updates included, for up to 3 Macs, or 6 with Supporter. It adds the panel options marked Pro, and the pricing section lists each of them. Because Drop Down can be tried before paying and Pro is described option by option, a refund is the safety net for what neither can show you: Pro that fails on your Mac.
What the 14-day refund covers
Ask within 14 days of the purchase date on your Polar receipt (the day you send your request counts; the refund request form prepares it), and we refund the full amount you paid when:
- Pro does not work on your Mac. A Pro option fails, your key does not activate, or Drop Down does not run properly, on a Mac that meets the requirements (macOS 27 or later).
- Pro is not what this site describes. Something these pages say Pro does, and on your Mac it does not.
- Your Mac cannot run Drop Down. You bought Pro for an Intel Mac, or a Mac on a macOS version before 27, where Drop Down does not open at all. Drop Down needs macOS 27 or later, which runs only on Macs with Apple silicon.
For a technical problem we may answer with a fix or a question first. It is often a permission or a setting, and we would rather you kept a Pro that works. If that does not solve it within 5 business days of your request, the refund is issued; you are never asked to wait longer than that. A report from Settings › About › Save Diagnostics Report…, attached to your email, answers most of what we would ask, and it never contains your license key.
What it does not cover
- A change of mind. “I do not need it after all”, “I thought I would use it more” or “I found another app”, about a Pro that works as described. That is the question Basic answers, for free and for as long as you like. We still read these requests and may grant one as a courtesy, for example when you bought Pro without trying Basic first, but this policy does not promise it.
- Requests after 14 days. The window runs from the purchase date on your Polar receipt.
- A second refund. One refund per customer. If you buy again after a refund, that purchase is final.
- Abuse. Repeated purchase-and-refund cycles, a key that has been shared or resold, or a request made after a chargeback was filed for the same purchase.
None of this limits the rights the law gives you, and none of it applies to duplicate purchases or to keys that never arrived.
Rights the law gives you
Nothing on this page removes a refund, cancellation or withdrawal right that the law where you live gives you and does not allow you to sign away. Where such a right applies, it comes before the two sections above: you do not have to give a reason, and you will not be asked to troubleshoot first.
- EU, EEA and United Kingdom. If you bought as a consumer, distance-selling law gives you 14 days from the purchase to withdraw from it without giving a reason: the Consumer Rights Directive in the EU and the EEA, the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 in the United Kingdom. Where that right applies to your purchase, we honour it in full, even if you have already downloaded Drop Down and activated your key.
- Anywhere else. If your consumer law gives you a refund or cooling-off right that cannot be contracted away, you have it here too. Tell us where you live and we apply it.
You can use the same form: its last step asks which right you are using, and the request is then handled as a withdrawal, whatever else the form says. Or simply write to hello@getdropdown.app that you are withdrawing from the purchase; any clear statement is enough, and no form is required.
Duplicate and accidental purchases
If you were charged twice, went through the checkout twice, or bought Supporter when you meant Pro (or the other way round), the purchase you did not mean to make is refunded. There is no case to argue. Send the form with the email address you used at the checkout, and say which order is the extra one.
A key that never arrived
Polar emails your license key right after the checkout. It is also in Polar’s customer portal, where you sign in with the email address you paid with. If your payment went through and no key reached you, check your spam folder first; if it is not there, that is a delivery failure on our side, not a refund request: we resend the key or refund the purchase, whichever you prefer. Use the form, or write to hello@getdropdown.app from the address you paid with.
How to ask
Refund requests go through the refund request form. It asks in four short steps for the email address you bought with, your license key and the reason, which is what lets us find the order and answer without a back and forth. The form sends nothing by itself: its last step hands you a finished email, and the request is made when you send that email from your own mail app.
Without the form, write to hello@getdropdown.app from the address you bought with, and include your name and country, your license key (or that it never arrived), the purchase date and what went wrong.
We read every request ourselves. The reply is one of three things: the refund, a fix to try, or the reason the request falls outside this policy.
After a refund
Polar, our merchant of record, issues the refund to the card or account you paid with; when it shows there depends on your bank. The license key from that purchase is revoked.
Each Mac where the key was active notices at its next license check, which Drop Down runs about once a day while it can reach Polar. Pro then stops there, and Drop Down carries on as Basic: hiding, the panel and every safety feature keep working, and your Pro choices stay saved rather than deleted. Settings › License then says that the key no longer works; Remove Key there deletes it from the Mac.
Chargebacks
If something is wrong with a charge, please ask us before you ask your bank. A refund through the form is quicker than a chargeback, which can take weeks, and a purchase that is charged back has its key revoked just like a refunded one.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The version published on the day you bought governs that purchase; the date at the top shows the latest version. The terms of use cover the rest of buying Pro.
